”Known to be a madam of authority in an Asian gentlemen’s club, the name Mama San was selected because of the old and new world influence the
interior and Asian cuisine would be. The team wanted to create a unique space to complement the sister restaurant Sarong rather than be in competition with it.
A large “gudang” or warehouse as it is known in English has been converted into a two level retro vintage restaurant, cooking school and bar.
Jl. Raya Kerobokan No. 135 Br. Taman, Bali.
Since opening in 2008, Sarong has become the most sought after Asian cusine dining establishment in Bali. Founding Chef Will Meyrick developed the concept after setting up several successful restaurants around Pacific Asia.
It was in Bali that Will decided to cumulate his experience and open a restaurant to share enticing recipes he’d sought out from street-food vendors around Asia.
The Singapore World Gourmet Summit placed Sarong in the top five best Asian restaurants in 2011, Conde Naste Traveller magazine tipped Sarong to be the hottest new global restaurant in 2009, and the Miele Guide pegged Sarong in the top five best Indonesian Restaurants in 2009 and 2010.

The dream has always been to open a place that is more than just a restaurant” says Will Meyrick, who is the brainchild behind Bali’s success story Sarong restaurant. “An environment where people can feel comfortable to eat, try their hand at cooking or just lounge in a bar. Basically, not needing to leave the space until home time, whatever that time is. Mama San is for anyone who appreciates to lounge in style and eat quality food without it being too expensive.
a stunning balcony overlooking the busy street scene, private dining room, eclectic range of Indonesian images and Mama overlooking the dining scene, Mama San is perfect for intimate dining, business dinners, parties and events.

The concept of Hujan Locale is an idea close to our heart as we have been developing our relationships with local farmers utilizing their produce in our restaurants over the past three years. In honoring these relationships HujanUbudcame at the perfect time in the perfect location to launch this next exciting venture.
The nameHujan was chosen to portray what the rains represent: Good fortune, prosperity and harvest.
The space casually reflects a cool tropical yet rural setting and an old world Asian charm. A distinct Old French Vietnam charm fills the interior, provincial and yet slightly urbanized. The original façade has been stripped back to reveal a softened concrete color with beautiful wooden shutters- reminiscent of traditional French town housing drenched by the Asian sun.
