WMTV: SRI LANKA

RESPLENDANT ISLE

Sri Lanka is a country that has captured my heart with its vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and incredible food. From bustling markets and street food stalls to serene temples and lush tea plantations, every corner tells a story, and I’m here to share it with you.
Join me as I explore this fascinating island—discovering flavors, meeting amazing people, and diving into the traditions that make Sri Lanka so unique. Whether it’s climbing Sigiriya, tasting string hoppers, or riding a train through misty hills, this journey has been unforgettable, and I can’t wait for you to experience it with me.

EPISODE 1: Negombo Fish Market

Negombo is a perfect spot to catch your breath before you take on the rest of the island of #SriLanka, close to the airport it’s a delightful fishing village with its own charm. Every day, the fishers take their Oruvas to catch the fishes they will sell in this amazing fish market.

EPISODE 2: Anuradhapura And Trincomalee

Let’s get a little spiritual in this episode, join me as I visit the historical site of Anuradhapura before heading off to the fishing town of Trincomalee where I’m going to investigate the fish markets and see some traditional fishing methods.

EPISODE 3: Trincomalee

Near Trincomalee’s fish markets are the vegetable markets. Come follow me into a vegetarian’s dreams: fresh green vegetables, fragrant leaves, knotty caws of ginger and turmeric and the deepest of orange pumpkins all laid out for sale in a kaleidoscope of colours and aromas.

EPISODE 4: Sigiriya

Watch me challenge my fear of heights as I scale the amazing Lion Rock, Sigiriya, in Sri Lanka. I was so pumped by the climb I forgot half of what I was going to say about it, but never the less it was a fantastic experience.

EPISODE 5: Kandy

I like Kandy: One very big Buddha foot in the past, one in the present , oh yes, and a tooth and an evil gnome. Come with me, let me show you around the city and introduce you to the famed Kandy Street Food of string hoppers and let’s enjoy meal at the Muslim Hotel.

EPISODE 6: Nuwara Eliya

Zip up your anoraks, today we are going to Nuwara Eliya in the rain. Join me as I discover the countryside that the English fell in love with. It looks like England, it feels like England and with High Tea on offer at The Grand Hotel it can even taste like England!

EPISODE 7: A Ride to Ella

Train travel in Sri Lanka is like none other, it really pays to travel in the coach class along with everyone else to get the full experience as you almost travel back in time as you trundle packed like sardines through breath taking gorges and across the verdant hillsides bathed in mist and thick with tea bushes.

EPISODE 8: Arugam Bay

For me Arugam Bay, like much of Sri Lanka, is a poignant reminder of how things elsewhere, Canggu in Bali, #Arjuna in India, used to be. Surfers mingle with the fisherfolk on the sandy beaches while quaint shack-cafes serve a menu that mixes simple fresh Sri Lanka cooking with the ideals of vegetarianism and healthy living, so you get juices, veggies bowls and the delights of the Sri Lankan ingredients.

EPISODE 9: Galle | Part One

When visiting Galle, you can of course spend some wonderful time by visiting the Dutch Fort, as well the Lighthouse. But not far from this really touristic spots, there’s a small market where you can find some typical Sri Lankan snacks such as egg buns fried, samosa and chilli sandwiches.

EPISODE 10: Galle | Part Two

Follow me today as I visit the temple of spices in Sri Lanka: The best spice shack in Galle City !
This place is amazing, with so many type of colourful curries. One is even, according to my host, good for cancer !
